Metro Purple Line Subway Extension – Section 1
The Purple Line Extension Transit Project is being built in 3 sections. When finished, the extension will provide a high-capacity, high speed, dependable alternative for commuters to travel between downtown Los Angeles and the Westside in about 25 minutes.
Section 1 of the Purple Line Extension Transit Project will add three new stations and 3.92 miles of new rail to Metro’s Rail system. The three new stations will be located at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire/La Cienega. The project will extend the current Purple Line from Koreatown through Miracle Mile and is expected to begin operations in 2023.
The Purple Line Extension will continue from the current Purple Line terminus at the Wilshire/Western Station, extending westward for nearly nine miles along Wilshire Bl. Forty-nine thousand people are projected to board the train daily at the seven new stations.
